Belfast News: Iris Robinson Story
Kirk McCambley

Following the BBC Spotlight Programme regarding Iris Robinson and the endless analysis of the story on television news and radio, it is hard to imagine what Simply Belfast can bring to the mix and hence the delay in composing this editorial.

For us, this news story is a tragedy which is littered with victims not least of which is Iris Robinson. What makes this story so saddening was that it started with the most purest of motives.

For Iris Robinson a friend of the late Billy McCambley a Ballyhackamore based butcher, had promised to look out for his only son once he was gone, following a terminal illness. Iris remained true to her word and in the programme Kirk McCambley said:

'she looked out for me and made sure I was OK'

'She was there..to help'

Following the death of his dad, Iris, who was a busy politician, wife and mother made time to help. As you would expect different people around Northern Ireland view this story differently, but it is concerning that many people interviewed regarding this story have become unrestrained in their language, lacking compassion, lacking mercy, lacking understanding, lets hope their own sin doesn't fall under the media spotlight any time soon.

Iris Robinson does not need this site to tell her what she has done wrong or the cost involved for she is painfully aware of it, but for a country now looking at another's sin and quick in their judgment of it, Iris's pastor James McConnell declared his view when he said:

'If the Lord should mark iniquity who would stand?'
