Exploring CS Lewis Square in East Belfast
CS Lewis Square is a public recreation area located in the heart of east Belfast. The square was opened C.S. Lewis. The Belfast landmark features a collection of seven sculptures dedicated to the life and works of the renowned author, with each sculpture in the square representing a character from CS Lewis's famous series of children's books, "The Chronicles of Narnia," which includes characters like Aslan the lion, the White Witch, and Mr. Tumnus.
Take a look at our photos below of the exquisite statues in CS Lewis Square:
Aslan is a central character in "The Chronicles of Narnia" and is depicted as a majestic lion, representing courage, strength, and wisdom.
The White Witch, also known as Jadis, is the primary antagonist in "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." She symbolizes evil and tyranny.
Mr. Tumnus is a faun who befriends the Pevensie children in the first book of the series. He represents kindness and loyalty.
The Beavers: Mr. and Mrs. Beaver are characters who aid the Pevensie children in their journey throughout Narnia. They symbolize hospitality and resourcefulness.
The Stone Table is a significant element in "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." It represents sacrifice and redemption.
The Wardrobe is the portal through which the Pevensie children enter the magical land of Narnia. It symbolizes the gateway between reality and fantasy.
The Lamp-post is a recurring motif in Narnia, serving as a beacon of hope and guidance for the characters. These sculptures not only celebrate the literary legacy of C.S. Lewis but also provide a visually stunning public space for visitors to enjoy and explore. CS Lewis Square has become a popular destination for fans of Lewis's work and for those seeking to appreciate public art in Belfast.
The Belfast attraction is located at the Holywood Arches in East Belfast and was offically opened to the public as part of the Connswater Greenway project. The official opening took place back in November 2016 (Tuesday the 22nd November 2016) at an event hosted by local actor Dan Gordon. Also in attendance was the then Northern Ireland First Minister Arelene Foster, East Belfast MP Gavin Robinson and East Belfast MLA Sammy Douglas.
