Ballymacarrett 1st Presbyterian Church
One of East Belfast's most famous churches has held its final service and has now closed its doors. Simply Belfast was permitted special access to the church where Sir Edward Carson worshiped on the day he signed the Ulster Covenant in 1912 and these are just a few of these special Belfast photos.
It is expected that this historic building which has seen dwindling congregations will been sold by the church but as you can see from the photos, there is certainly an argument for the East Belfast church to be listed.
Ballymacarrett 1st Presbyterian Church is situated behind what is currently the East Belfast office of the Ulster Unionist Party on the Albertbridge Road. The last Sunday service was held on the 12th September 2010 after 178 years of service to Belfast including during the troubles which saw parishioners pass through army checkpoints on the Paulett Avenue to get to their Christian services.
