Tall Ships Belfast 2015
Ship Ahoy! Just prior to the start of the 2015 Tall Ships Race Belfast hosted many of the ships including naval vessels in its harbour. The Festival ran between the 2nd and 5th July 2015 at both the marina and docks close to the Odyssey & Titanic Belfast and the deep sea Pollock Dock. Many of the tall ships were accessible to the public who were able to meet the crew and be shown around the ships, its rigging and take some selfies.
The Odyssey site hosted a continental market just outside its front door with a major amusement park being set up in its sunstantial carparks. Likewise, on the Northside Pollock Dock not only had world famoud tall ships but Naval Vessels, amusements and stalls - the most contraversal of which was the Camp Cooks!
The Belfast event lasted 4 days and saw a fireworks display on the Saturday Night, a Red Arrows Fly Past on the Sunday Morning and a flotilla of tall ships leave the Port of Belfast on Sunday Afternoon waived off by tens of thousands of well wishers on each side of Belfast Lough and to the sound of a million clicking cameras!
Having left Belfast the tall ships have now assembled on Northern Ireland's North Coast in preparation for the start of the Race on Monday!
It has to be said - A Big Congratulations to the organisers, to Translink drivers for 'ferrying' us all around & the police for keeping us safe - to our maritime friends we say 'you're welcome in Belfast anytime, we pray your race is plane sailing'
